As the days continue to get shorter, you want to create more effective light in your outdoor spaces. After a long day at work, you can’t wait to get home, but you also want to make sure you can see well in your driveway, or be able to relax in your heated, screened-in patio. Here are some wonderful ways to light up your outdoor spaces:

LED LIGHTS Jodi Burtner with Burtner Electric says, “LED lights lower your electric bills, look very attractive, and really light up your driveways and patios.” Solar Globe String lights add the perfect glow of ambient lighting to an outdoor patio or screened-in porch. You can also use LED lights with your outdoor planters to accentuate light in front of your home.

ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING Highlight the details of your home with architectural lighting. Homes with stucco walls or other unique features look really beautiful with this type of lighting. According to Burtner, using architectural lighting around the exterior of your home is a great way to increase safety and security, but keep up the curb appeal of your home.

OUTDOOR STEP LIGHTING “Having lighting on steps and walkways is both wise and safe,” Burtner says. “You can use outdoor step lighting on the side of your steps to light up the surface of each step. It can reallyilluminate your walkway, looks great, and it helps your guests see better as they walk up to your house.” Another option is to add strip lights to any stairs leading up to entrances or around your property.

PATHWAY LIGHTING Installing pathway lighting at a lower height on both sides of your pathway helps your guestsnavigate safely to your backyard or fire pit in the dark. Solar Globe String Lights are also great for paths, and if you have a walkway from the street to your front door, they are effective at lighting the way.
