The phrase “hindsight is 2020” seems ironic these days given the fact that no one saw 2020 coming. When we rang in the new year, Custom Concrete had a vision for the year before everything turned in a different direction.

Looking back, Jason Ells, Senior Vice President of Custom Concrete, recalls when things started to change, “In March our heads were spinning. We were uncertain how the government mandates, safety protocols, and economic conditions would affect our business.” But instead of panicking, the team at Custom Concrete took the advice of Winston Churchill, who had said, “Never let a good crisis go to waste,” so they picked up their phones to check on their customers.

“It was an opportunity to be vulnerable and real and ask how they were doing and what we could do to help,” says Ells of the team’s motivation to turn uncertainty into opportunity and to make these crazy times into something valuable. Custom Concrete employees also identified what was needed to be successful, and subsequently built wraparound services based on those needs.

Going into the pandemic the team at Custom Concrete vowed to remain calm, seek wisdom, and always do the next right thing. By following these guiding principles, they have seen improved relationships with clients, better employee communication, and increased employee engagement.

Dialing in on services and quality allowed Custom Concrete to optimize during this time. As a result, Custom Concrete feels well poised for 2021.
